About

Bovenplaas is a smallholding nestled between the R310 and the Dwarsrivier in Johannesdal overlooking the Groot Drakenstein Mountains. Recently bought from one of the old Pniel families, the farm is being restored by two Botha sisters from the Free State.

Together we have converted the old pack shed into a culture club called Die Boekklub and the outbuildings into two cottages named after our grandmothers: The Ouma Koeksie and The Ouma Celia.

Die Boekklub is a venue for cultural events, but there is a bed on the mezzanine for those who want to feel like they are sleeping in the Hall of The Mountain King.

Nadia, aka the Kaalvoet Kontessa, lives in the old Spanish revival hacienda on the property. We hope our father is going to build a cottage for himself and his bride when he retires from farming in the Free State.
